"Because of Anya" hit home with me because I have a 10-year-old granddaughter who suffers from this same condition. I came across this book while searching for something to help boost her spirits. She is and has always been a positive girl, but I knew she was going to have a hard time with her peers. This book shows the strength and determination of two little girls, one undergoing a traumatic experience, the other in being a staunch friend when the first one is being bullied. Anyone with any "difference" can learn a lesson from this book, about accepting another person's differences.

This is such a great book! I'm a little older for this book than I think would be recommended, but if anyone's a child or young adult, or if anyone takes care of a child or young adult, they should definitely read this book. It was amazing, and I'll more than likely read it, again, very soon.
Margaret Peterson Haddix has written a lot of books that 3-6th graders have read - "Among The Hidden", etc. This book, by virture of the popularity of her other books, will be read by so many kids. For that I'm so thankful! Raising awareness of alopecia areata and what it is AND what it isn't is wonderfully helpful among school aged kids.
As a mom of a wonderful young lady with alopecia, this book was painful to read but oh-so necessary. I purchased books for our school libraries and now many students are aware of alopecia.
Good book for kids 12 and under. Strong female characters, good lessons learned. I got this for my 6 yo who reads at a 4th grade level, she loved it.
Cute book about a 4th grade girl with Alopecia. Also deals with bullying. Good book for struggling readers at the 4th-6th grade level.
This book is a very good story. It is about a girl with a disease and her friends help her. It is awesome and touching. It was so good I read it in 40 minutes.
This is a wonderful and quick "must read". So many people suffer needlessly from feelings of embarrassment or fear of not being accepted because they have a condition that makes them different. Stories like "Because of Anya" remind us that acts of kindness and understanding can go far in helping another human being to cope with a difficult situation. I really loved this book.
Fantastic book. The characters are well developed and discussed in a way that my students are able to learn from the experiences the characters have. It is very powerful and well written. My students thoroughly enjoyed this book.
